After graduating from WLHS, I attended Purdue University School of Nursing and received a degree in Nursing. I began working at Home Hospital in Lafayette specializing in pediatric nursing. While studying for my State Board exams, I met my future Husband (Bob) who was an Engineering student at Purdue. We married in June 1970 and had 3 great Sons – Jason (44), Aaron (41), and Adam (35). We will be celebrating our 46th wedding anniversary this June. After my Husband graduated, our family lived at several locations for his engineering job including Minnesota, Chicago, Pittsburg, and finally in Spartanburg South Carolina which has been our home since 1980.

Our oldest son, Jason works as a clinical pharmacist in a hospital near the ocean in Charleston SC, receiving his pharmacy degree from the Medical University of SC. He is married with 2 children a daughter and a son. His wife is a RN who works as a “pic line” team lead in a Charleston hospital. His daughter is the oldest and had her first child, a son who will be 2 this July. So Bob and I are not only Grandparents but Great Grandparents!

Our middle son, Aaron is married with no children. He received his BS in Chemistry from the College of Charleston. He is a quality control chemist for a small specialty chemical company. His wife is an import-export specialist for a large chemical company. Both live and work in Charlotte, NC.

Our youngest son, Adam earned his PhD from the Medical University of SC in Immunology and is a Senior Cancer Researcher at the Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Florida. He spends nearly 100% of his time in a research lab where he leads a team of cancer researchers. No surprise he is not married and no future bride in site yet.

In 1984 when my sons were 13, 10, and 2 years old I suffered a sudden massive cerebral hemorrhage apparently caused by a ruptured AVM (abnormal venous malformation) in the middle of my brain, something I was born with. This left me with complete paralysis on my entire right side- head to toes. After many months in the hospital and more than 2 years of physical therapy rehabilitation, I was able to resume a somewhat normal life with a disability I will always have.

After my youngest son left home for college, I started working in the wedding business selling wedding gowns in a nearby Bridal Shop. I sold wedding gowns, pageant gowns, prom gowns, and gowns for cruising. After a couple years of this, I left retail and went back to school to learn about the wedding business including wedding planning, and how to make wedding cakes. I opened my own wedding cake business and for more than 15 years I designed and baked wedding cakes and just about any other cake you can imagine. In 2012, I retired my business and now enjoy reading, cooking, and traveling.

Bob and I have taken several cruises including cruises to Alaska, the Mexican west coast, the Bahamas, and the eastern Mediterranean including Turkey and hope to do more in the future. We also traveled to Europe on 2 occasions. When our youngest son was in High School, he was a Drum Major of a 375 member marching band which arranged a European trip for its members every other year. Bob and I served as chaperones on 2 of these trips for more than 100 teenage band members. One was a 10 day trip to England and France and a second 12 day trip to Germany. A few sleepless nights during each trip.

Currently, we enjoy traveling to see our 17 year old grandson play soccer in a Club league during the summer and fall, and in the spring for his high school team. He is also a member of the Southeast US U18 Junior Olympic Team for the past 2 years. We’re hoping to travel to see one of these soccer games this summer.
