Posted 4/30/16 After graduation from WLHS I attended Drake University, Des Moines, Iowa. I graduated from Drake with a double major in elementary education and special education. While at Drake I met my future husband, Pete who grew up in Des Moines. We were married in July 1971 and I joined Pete in Tucson, AZ where he was stationed in the USAir Force. While we lived in Tucson I taught special education at an elementary school. I graduated from University of Arizona with a MEd in special education. In 1975 we returned to the Midwest when Pete accepted a job in Chicago. We have lived in suburban Chicago since then and have lived in Arlington Heights for almost 30 years. We have two married sons and 4 young grandchildren. During the years when the boys were growing up I was mom, parent, church, school, and community volunteer. I went back to teaching as a substitute in our local school district for 15 years. I retired from substitute teaching when our first grandchild was born so I could help with her day care. Our sons both graduated from the University of Illinois and work for companies in Chicago. Both the boys and their families live within a few miles of us. They keep us busy with babysitting and attending their activities. We feel very blessed to have our family so close. Pete retired from his career as CFO of various corporations 3 years ago. We now spend our time babysitting our grandchildren, traveling, attending symphony concerts and doing volunteer work at church and other community organizations. We moved into a new home recently which we love. I’m looking forward to seeing everyone at the reunion. |
