OK Darlene, thanks for the nudge. Here it is…

For those of you who remember me as an insect geek, I managed to parlay my childhood fascination into a career! After WLHS I attended Purdue for a BS and stayed for a Masters (in entomology of course), then to California for a Ph.D. (entomology again). In between Sue and I got married, and this year we are celebrating 45 years together.

With degree in hand my first job (after 6 years in grad school) was in Mississippi, where we stayed for 2+ years (in retrospect a most interesting experience, but at the time a place I loved to hate), then I had the good fortune to get hired at the U of Wisconsin. Sue and I moved to Madison and have lived here (with me at UW) for over 36 years. And I’m still fascinated by insects!

We raised two sons and now have four grandchildren - 2 in Texas, 2 in Wisconsin. I will retire from the UW at the end of the year, plan to build my beekeeping hobby into a business and stay engaged in butterfly (especially monarch butterfly) conservation efforts. Sue is a movement, life and nutrition coach (we have a Pilates studio in our lower level) and has no plans to retire. She also sells her homemade energy bars and honey roasted cashews locally (both products use my honey).

Great reading all the updates, please keep posting! Look forward to seeing everyone on the 24th!
