Posted 6/1/16 After graduation from Purdue, John and I moved to Florida. I started teaching in Pinellas County schools and we lived in Largo. I taught for 36 1/2 years in several Title 1 schools, teaching 6th-2nd grades over the years. My final years were as a reading specialist after getting my Masters degree. Our son John grew up here, playing basketball throughout high school and community college. Florida State University told him he was too short at 6-5'' to play college ball. He returned to Pinellas County to work in advertising with Bright House. He is married and has an ll year old son that also plays basketball. I married in l990 to a fellow educator(although, Marty taught high school Physic and Chemisty). When we married, Marty came to Pinellas from Daytona, to begin a new magnate school in Science, Math and Technology(a precursor to the newer STEM schools). Marty spent his last 10 years as the director of this nationally acclaimed school. We are both retired and spend our days doing as we like. He golfs. We have season tickets toTampaBay Rays baseball. I am the president of our retired teachers organization that is connected to NEA that we both were active in as educators. We both like to travel and have been many places with my visiting Antarctica to complete all of the continents for me. I just returned from Costa Rica in May--did it all: rainforest, zipline, rafting, horseback riding, lots of wonderful experiences. We are both off to Ireland this fall and England, Scotland and Wales in 2017. We worked hard for many years and now enjoy our retirement! |
