A brief glimpse into my past since we were all together last:

Graduated from Indiana University in 1970; left the Army as a Signal Corps Officer in 1973 and went to work for Orville Redenbacher; following the sale of Orville Redenbacher to Hunt and Wesson, Abbot labs hired me to be a warehouse manager in St. Louis, Missouri. St. Louis is where I met and married Deena Heide. Abbot, a great company, did not hold the promise for the kind of future I envisioned for me and my bride. About six months after getting married, we moved to Decatur, Illinois where I ran production for a potato chip company. (Deena, from New York, and I) both knew Illinois would not be our permanent residence, so we each made a list of states where we thought we would like to relocate to make our permanent home. We had one match, Texas! Deena had dual Masters Degrees in Social Work and in Psychology from St. Louis University. Upon arriving in Texas, I worked six months for Jiménez Foods, in Fort Worth (running a chip & tortilla production plant).

With Deena’s support (she worked for the Dallas VNA) and our savings, we started a Financial Advisory firm in 1980. Along the way, I got my real estate broker’s license; earned my MBA from The University of Dallas; and earned my CFP designation in ‘83. Both my father-in-law and my dad were very helpful at times in helping to build the business. In 1992, Deena got directly involved in the business and played a significant part with the internal operations and client recruiting. Though we had no children, Deena and I had a wonderful life together; she passed away on February 28, 2011 following a courageous battle with ovarian cancer. A 6+ years of a “dance in the rain” with that cancer. 34 years with an amazing lady who is missed, but will always be with me.

I was fortunate and blessed to find love and a “best friend” again, so last year, February 21 2015, I married Marinda Hollar, (she lost her spouse to cancer 8 months before I lost Deena). With my Marinda (mother of two adult children), came a sweet bonus: I am now a stepdad and a grandpa! Marinda and I had the privilege of sharing the birth of our granddaughter, Zoe Lila, and 3 years later, our grandson, Leandrew David and being among the very first to welcome them to our wonderful family!

The firm, started so long ago, is now Diesslin Group, Inc. and D. Bradley “Brad” Bourland is the CEO; I am Founder and Chairman. DG, in Fort Worth, Texas is a fee-only wealth management firm that helps clients (in 16 states and several foreign countries) with their planning and investments.

These days, much of my focus is on the non-profit foundation that Deena and I created: The Heide-Diesslin Foundation. Following Deena’s passing, the name of the foundation was changed to The Deena Jo Heide-Diesslin Foundation. When not in the office, in Fort Worth, Marinda and I travel, which usually includes one international trip a year on behalf of the Foundation.

Journeys are rarely, fully understood during their planning and execution. At critical times, faith has been the sustaining strength and the joy of understanding, which has made the path possible on my journey.
