Posted 5/25/16 Following graduation from WLHS and Indiana University, I lived in Wausau, WI for 4 years where I worked in the home office of Crestline Wood Windows Manufacturing. Rib Mountain Ski Resort was only 20 minutes away. Downhill skiing became a passion for many years skiing in Wisconsin, Michigan, Colorado, upper state New York. Wisconsin was also a great place for canoeing, rafting and hiking, but winters are long. Following a 6-week trip to Europe, I moved back to Lafayette where I was hired by the State as a caseworker in Tippecanoe County. I also completed some post graduate courses at P.U. for my job. In 1978, I married Randy Fairman and relocated to Indianapolis where Randy worked for American Family Insurance. My job transferred to Marion County; however, after a couple of years, I was promoted to work at the State Office in the State Department of Public Welfare Quality Control initially conducting field investigations across Indiana and then in supervision. Until 2014, I continued working for the State in various positions in State Medicaid middle management and consulting to the State Divisions of Aging; Developmental Disabilities; and Mental Health and Addiction. We enjoyed traveling, mostly around the US from coast-to coast, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as a few trips outside of the US. I played USTA tennis for several years and my team made it to the US finals one year in Tucson, AZ, which was exciting. Randy and I did not have any children, but Randy had a 5-year old son when we were married, so I enjoyed watching him grow up. Mike graduated from P.U., has a wonderful son and daughter and owns his own business in southern Kentucky. Following retirement from the State of Indiana in 2014, Randy and I moved to Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. It is the largest gated community by acreage in the U.S, located in the heavily wooded foothills of the Ouachita Mountains, just north of Hot Springs National Park. This is quite a change from living in Indianapolis as the elevation change within Hot Springs Village is about the same as the entire state of Indiana. Arkansas is known as the “Natural State” with numerous lakes, rivers, forests, an extensive State Park system and numerous golf courses. There are miles of wonderful hiking trails which I really enjoy. Randy and I look forward to more travels, and the numerous activities in and around Hot Springs Village. |
