Hello to everyone. It has been a very long time since we graduated together. Following WLHS, I went to Purdue (B.S., Chemical Engineering in 1970) and the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor (M.S., Chemical Engineering in 1972). Then I had the good fortune to move to San Francisco to work for the research arm of Chevron Corporation. I had always wanted to live and work in a large city, and San Francisco was a special opportunity.

I worked for Chevron for 36 years, retiring in 2008. I didn’t plan to spend my career there, but it just happened. I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area the entire time, except for short assignments in Los Angeles and London. I had a variety of experiences with Chevron before spending the last 20 years working in government affairs. Ultimately, I managed Chevron’s corporate policy group, which developed the company position on proposed legislation at the state and federal level.

The best thing that has happened to me is meeting my great partner in life, Janis. She is from Ohio and moved to the Bay Area the same year I did, although we didn’t meet until much later in the early 1980s. Janis worked for AT&T for many years in supervisory and managerial roles before moving to the spinoffs of Lucent and then Avaya. We were married in 1987. We both worked while raising our son, John, who is 27 and lives in San Francisco. He has a master’s degree in Sport Management from University of San Francisco.

We live on the northeast waterfront of San Francisco, right below Telegraph Hill. It is a great location and we can walk to shops, restaurants, the health club, etc. We both enjoy working on our respective genealogy and traveling. We are fans of the Giants and Warriors (in the past I had season tickets to the Warriors for 10 years). One of my major hobbies is French culture and, after many years of study, I am fluent in French. We have visited/vacationed in France 15-20 times over the years and have the good fortune to maintain close friendships with families living in Paris and Alsace. I am also active in our neighborhood politics, serving as President of the Barbary Coast Neighborhood Association from 2013-2015. There is a good deal of housing and hotel development occurring in our part of the City, so there is much to do.

I am looking forward to the reunion this summer and the opportunity to see everyone. Take care until then. Best Regards, Bob
