Posted 5/11/16 As many of you have said, "how do I sum up 50 years?" I met and married my husband (Buck) while at Purdue. His Navy career took us from IN to Maryland, Virginia, Washington DC, Florida and finally we were suppose to go to Hawaii when we decided to get out. That choice took us back to IN where we settled in Bloomington. While there Buck was one of the Alumni Directors and I was an Assistant Dean of Students. We both had wondering hearts and left Bloomington for Wisconsin, Arizona, back to Florida, Wisconsin and Indiana. As Anita Duff once said, you need an entire page in a address book to keep track of The Carpers. In those travels we raised three wonderful children who grew into adults with families of their own. I lost Buck to cancer at the early age of 57. After that I relocated back to Lake Geneva where we had spent many happy years together. One by one my children relocated back to the Lake Geneva area and now I spend quality time with my kids and grandchildren. I have worked with Big Brothers Big Sisters for six years and have moved into the Executive Director position that I thoroughly enjoy. I guess it is good that I really enjoy my work because I don't think I could retire, and my family insist that I don't because I would drive everyone crazy if I wasn't working. I have enjoyed reading about everyone and wish I could visit with you at the reunion but I am not going to be able to make it. So enjoy and keep sharing. |
